E=mc2 May 14, 2009 Elizabeth Wonderham i think every album of mariah carey is great but this one didn't do it for me like her last album she has a great voice and great lyrics but i only liked half of this album i think the best songs on this cd is 1.migrate 2.touch my body 3.i stay in love 4.love story 5.bye bye i have to say this cd is well worth you money though but probably will never be her best album ever
Is this seriously Mariah Carey? April 24, 2009 C. Ingraham 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After releasing one of the best albums of her career (2005's The Emancipation of Mimi), Mariah Carey followed up with E=MC2, a record whose title advertises how formulaic it is. What made Emancipation such a great record were its smooth, soulful ballads with powerful vocals; aside from "I Wish You Well," itself a sonic recreation of "Fly Like a Bird," there are no such songs to be found here. Mariah barely sings on most tracks, instead cooing and whispering like any recent R&B one-hit-wonder. Mariah and a host of hip-hop producers (including Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Danja) have created an album of half-baked "We Belong Together" retreads ("Thanx 4 Nothin'," "Last Kiss," and "I Stay in Love" are virtually indistinguishable) and stale hip-hop numbers. "Side Effects" finds the star still rehashing her 1998 divorce. "Migrate" is another tired T-Pain collaboration with some of the worst lyrics of Mariah's career. In fact, here's a sample of the desperately "hip" lyrics laced throughout E=MC2:
"Cause my jeans, yeah they fit but it might benefit / me to throw somethin' on / to feature my hips accentuate my t**s / and steal the show"
"I've been told so many sagas / he brings the drama, six baby mamas"
"I'm like that oooweee / you're fiendin' to blaze up / and taste me / got flavor like ice cream"
For an artist whose back catalogue includes powerful songs like "Vision of Love," "One Sweet Day" (whose lyrics she copies on the bland "Bye Bye"), and "Close My Eyes," most of the material here is extremely disappointing and often simply embarrassing ("I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"... really, Mariah?). Following a highlight like The Emancipation of Mimi only exaggerates this album's shortcomings. 2 Stars.
Disappointing but with a few great tracks March 20, 2009 Jeremy Gloff (Tampa, Fl United States) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful

"MARIAH CAREY E=MC2" March 19, 2009 GALAXY PARADISE / CHINESE BOXES (BALTIMORE, MARYLAND IN THE UNITED STATES) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
*REVIEW #9.* NOT A BAD ALBUM. Here Is My Review Of Each Of These Songs: SONG NUMBER #1. "MIGRATE" FEATURING T-PAIN - If T-Pain did not "Rap" on this Song, it would have probably been better. Not much better, but better. His "Rapping" did not leave an "Impression" on Me at all. And even Mariah Carey can't save this Song after the "Damage" that is left by T-Pain when He's finished with it. TIME OF SONG: ( 4:18 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 4 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #2. "TOUCH MY BODY" - Look, i know that this Song is the "Hit Single" from Your Compact Disc Mariah of "E=MC2", but let's face it, this Track is nothing more than "Filler". And not even "Good Filler" at that. This Song to Me, sounds like it dose'nt "Go Anywhere", or "Do Anything" to really make it a "Great Sounding Song" coming from Her. But People, that's just My "Opinion" about this "Cut" from Her Record. Draw your own "Opinions and Conclusions" on this Song by Her. "At Your Own Risk". TIME OF SONG: (3:25 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 5 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #3. "CRUISE CONTROL" FEATURING DAMIAN MARLEY - Now this Song i "Like". Maybe even "Love". Mariah Carey's "Voice" just "Bounces Along" with the Music on this Song here. And both Mariah and the "Melody Of The Music", know how to "Dip", and then "Bounce Right Back" into the "Bridge Of The Music" without "Missing A Beat". Amazing. Damian Marley does His "Reggae Rap Thing" in the "Background"- and knows how to keep it "Short And Sweet"- and He knows how to "Get In" and "Get Out" without "Disturbing" the "Flow Of The Music" or "Mariah Carey's Singing". (Not like T-Pain, who "Stayed Around Too Long" on the first Song "Migrate".) Even Mariah Herself, tries Her "Hand At Reggae Rapping" like Damian Marley. And She "Pulls It Off Like A Pro". TIME OF SONG: ( 3:33 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 9 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #4. "I STAY IN LOVE" This is just a "Mid-Tempo Ballard" from Mariah Carey. It's not bad. I just wish that this Song from Her was a "Little Longer". I wanted to hear more of this one. TIME OF SONG: ( 3:32 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 7 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER # 5. "SIDE EFFECTS" FEATURING YOUNG JEEZY - At first, i thought that when i heard this Song, that Mariah had gone "Gansta" on Me. It turns out that this Song with Young Jeezy sounds, well, "Breezy". Which is "Pretty Nice". And Mariah does sound good with him here on this Track, i must admit it. Likeable. TIME OF SONG: ( 4:22 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 8 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #6. "I'M THAT CHICK" - This Song is "Everything" that i "Expect" from Mariah Carey and more. Not only that, She "Delivers" on it "First Rate". This Song here is "So Smooth" and "So Slick" coming from Her, that it is a "Sheer Joy And Delight", just to hear Her sing it. Mariah Carey takes "Total Control" of this Song from "Start To Finish"- and She "Handles It" with "No Problems- And With Ease"- just like the "Seasoned Veteran Professional" that She is. I'll let you Guys out there reading this, in on "A Little Secret". From the moment that i first heard this Song from Mariah, it stopped Me "Dead In My Tracks". Then i just "Listened To Everything" that this Song had to "Offer" Me- and the "Listening Audience"- out there. From the "Amazing And Catchy Consistent Flow" of Mariah's Singing, to those "Great Backup Singers And Musicans" of Hers- that She has here on this Track- that kept this "Song In My Head For Months On End"- and is still there. (I Love And Thank Mariah And Her Team For Doing That.) To just the "Whole Production Number- and the way that this Song sounds- which is great. Plus, after saying all that, you can bet for a fact that i'm going to be playing this Song by Mariah Carey a lot during the "Spring; Summer; Fall; And Winter Months" of this Year and beyond that. This is one of My "Favorite Songs" from Her thats off of this Disc. This is a great Song Mariah, and i just love it. TIME OF SONG: ( 3:31 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 10 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #7. "LOVE STORY" - Wow! And i thought that "I'M THAT CHICK" was great. (It Certainly Was- And Is.) Here Mariah just lets that "Sweet Voice Of Hers", "Float" on this Song here- and She sings it just "Beautifully"- like it's the last Song that She will "Ever Sing". Unbelieveable. This one is "Another Favorite Of Mine". Listen to this, and You will see why. Nobody can sing this Song- or any Song- like Mariah Carey can. Nobody! Believe Me on that People! TIME OF SONG: ( 3:56 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 10 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #8. "I'LL BE LOVIN' U LONG TIME" - No, Mariah Carey has not "Gone Oriental" on us. Not even "Ancient Orient". Not just yet on this Song. At least, by the way the Song sounds, (The Orchestration On The Song That Is.) She's gone, well, let's just say, that She gone by "Route" of "Earth, Wind & Fire". By that i mean, the Orchestra on this Song by her, when i first heard them playing, it reminded Me of some of Earth, Wind & Fire "Old Tunes" for some "Weird" reason that i can't figure out. Maybe, they have use "Orchestration" similar to this here that Mariah Carey is using in some of their Songs. I don't know, and i'm not quite sure. But, anyway, this is a great "Summer Song" that i'm sure that i will be listening to throught this Summer ahead, and next Summer as well. It has (On The [Title Song], "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"), a "Chorus" that just "Sticks" in your head, anytime that Mariah Carey sings it. You know something, after the last two Songs that She did- just before this one here- Mariah- at this point, has now "Settled" into a "Comfortable Groove And Zone"- and with this Song here, well, that makes Her "Consistent". And be honest, isn't this Song from Her "Catchy As Heck". You know it is. This Girl is "Good". She's "Real Good". TIME OF SONG: ( 3:01 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 10 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #9. "LAST KISS" - Nice. This is mainly an "Excerise" for Mariah Carey to "Show-Off" those "Vocal Pipes" of Hers. And, that Mariah does to "Great Effect" on this Track. You can hear the "Mix And Overdubs" on this Song from Her "Crystal Clear". By the way Mariah, could You please tell that "Person" who is "Singing; Rapping; Talking;" or whatever the heck that they are doing, to please be quiet!! I did not pay to hear Him, i paid to hear You. And, if He is going to be doing that, at least have the "Decency" to put "Your Name" on the Song- or as a "Featured Guest" on the Song- If not, then be quiet, and let Her sing instead. Thank You. TIME OF SONG: ( 3:36 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 9 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER # 10. "THANX 4 NOTHIN'" - Oops. And a "Big Oops" to Mariah Carey on this one. It almost seems that each time Mariah sings the words "Thanx For Nothing" in this Song, it sounds so "Weak" when she does it. And not only that, She also sounds like She is "Crying" and in "Pain" when She does it. The rest of the Song sounds "Just Ok" to Me. I can either "Take It", or "Leave It". It's just mostly on that part of this Song, that really "Kills It" and "Drags The Song Down. And Mariah, i thought that i told that "Person" to put "His Name" down to get "Credit" on this Track if He was going to be "Doing His Thing" on Your Song. I guess He- nor She- even "Listened" or paid any "Attention" to Me. And, You can also tell "Your Friend", that not even He can save this Song for You this time- like he did on the Song "Last Kiss"- right before this one. I guess that i was right when i said in the Song "LOVE STORY": "That Nobody Can Sing A Song Like Mariah Carey Can". "Nobody". Heck People, when i said that, i sure did'nt mean for Mariah Carey to sing the Song like this. Man, is this a "Sad Song" coming from Her. TIME OF SONG: ( 3:05 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 3 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER # 11. "O.O.C." - Likeable Song Mariah, but "Filler" once again. I was not quite sure what the "O.O.C". was until i "Cheated" and looked at the "Song Lyrics". I thought it was a "Medical Term" like "D.D.S.", "P.H.D." or something like that, that had to do the the "Hit Show ER". On this "Cut", by the time that i start to get "Into The Song", it's "Fading Out"- and going into the "Next Track"- on "E=MC2". I really wanted to give this Song a chance Mariah, but it never let Me. Sorry. TIME OF SONG: ( 3:26 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 6 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #12. "FOR THE RECORD" - Not bad. This Song is also "Short", just like the Song "O.O.C.". Plus, You can "Easily" tell that Mariah Carey "Recorded" Her "High-Pitch, Siren Wail" that She is "Famous For", first- before Her "Vocals"- on this Song; because, it is "Playing In The Background" at the same time that She is singing. Talk about "Overdubbing". Now look People, i know that Mariah Carey is "Good"- I even "Stated"- and "Said" that a while ago in one of Her Songs that i "Reviewed", But as "Good"- even as "Great" as Mariah Carey is- it's "Hard" to do a "Magic Trick" like that- and then expect to get away with it? I mean now really, come on! I should'nt even be "Buying That" from Her! And neither should any of You! TIME OF SONG: ( 3:26 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 7 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER # 13. "BYE, BYE" - Very nice. This Song here shows what Mariah Carey can do, when the right Song is "Written" or "Co-Written" by Her or "Given" to Her. So, how does the Song sound? "Pretty Good"- if not "Pretty Great". "The Bottom Line" is that Mariah Carey, well, She just sings the Song to the "Best Of Her Ability"- And She "Scores"!- Mariah "Hits Her Mark" on this Track here. This Song also puts Her back in "Top Form", after the "Last 3 Songs" right before this one. Excellent. TIME OF SONG: ( 4:27 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 9 OUT OF 10 ) SONG NUMBER #14. "I WISH YOU WELL" - This is where Mariah Carey goes "Back To The Church" and finds Her "Gospel Roots". Mariah Carey i think sounds "Real Good" on this Song here- and it shows- in Her singing of this Song. I wonder if sometime or somewhere "Down The Line", will Mariah Carey ever make a "Gospel Record". I think that would be "Very Interesting" if She did. I for one would love to hear Her do something like that. And, i hope that You would to. TIME OF SONG: ( 4:35 ) GRADE FOR SONG: ( 9 OUT OF 10 ) THE LETTER GRADE FOR THE COMPACT DISC OF "MARIAH CAREY E=MC2" IS: - GRADE: - ( " B- " )
