This is still teen pop! September 23, 2008 Eric Smith (Pittsburgh, PA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm sick of people saying that "Leavin" was R&B. It is NOT R&B. It may have been produced and written by The-Dream but it's not R&B! This is pure teen pop. I don't care if he is 21. He sounds 15 and the lyrics are horrible. Why didn't he write the hit single "Leavin" if he is such a good songwriter? He isn't. He is pretty bad. "Its Over" flopped and I can see why. Maybe he "wrote" that one too (he always seems to "Write" songs with other writers, not by himself LMAO). Anyhoo don't buy this unless you want to hear bad teen pop crap.
FABULOUS!!!!!! August 26, 2008 L. C. Hillman (Westervile, OH USA) This is Jesse's best album to date. The album has songs for all occasions and I just love the beats on most of the songs.
Jesse's Best Work Yet August 11, 2008 Music_Fan (Richmond, VA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jesse McCartney's new album Departure is absolutely the best work he's ever done. The CD introduces a new sound from the pop star that's more striking and catchy than any other material he's put out thus far. Departure definitely separates itself from Jesse's other albums by showcasing a more mature sound with its upbeat R&B influenced songs. The first single off the album, "Leavin'" is this summer's number one hit, reaching the top of numerous charts including radio and billboard. Many of the songs on the CD follow the rhythmic beat of Leavin', but there are also some slower ballads on the album that fans will appreciate who liked his older work. Working on this album with McCartney are some big names in the business. Producers include: Tricky (Rihanna, Britney Spears, Madonna, Mariah Carey), The Dream (Rihanna, Usher, Ciara), The Clutch (Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown), Sean Garrett (Beyonce, Britney Spears, Chris Brown). These producers have helped write numerous hits for the artists listed above. I know for a fact Jesse will have a few more hits under his belt from his new LP Departure. This album certainly sets the bar in Jesse's career, no doubt about it.
Here are some reviews from established music critics: PopJustice.com reviewed the album, and said "Departure repositions McCartney alongside Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown and stands as an exciting, brilliantly produced landmark on the post-'Maneater' pop landscape. While referring to "My Baby", one of the album's tracks, they went on to say "if Michael Jackson was recording 'Off the Wall' in 2008 it would probably sound a bit like this." Chris A Sosa of Musicouch states that "Jesse's Departure...marks a step in the right direction for McCartney".
Very disappointed.. August 9, 2008 Lisa Lombardo (Turnersville, NJ) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of Jesse McCartney, and I loved his other two CDs. I guess I just wasn't expecting such a "departure" from the sound of his first two. I just don't love it like I do the others. I found it to be a huge disappointment in sound and the quality of the songs. I don't think this CD fits his image, but I guess that is what he was going for. I am just not sure his pop fans will appreciate this CD. It might take a lot of getting used to.
Don't Listen To The Haters - This Album Is HOTT!!! July 22, 2008 R. Jackson (Columbus, OH) Jesse McCarntey's new album DEPARTURE is definitely one that will attract both the Pop, and R&B scene, and maybe a little Hip-Hop as well.
The new album is so different from McCarntey's sophomore album RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT ME, which featured a hint of R&B in it, but was mostly Mainstream Alternative.
BEST TRACKS:
2. It's Over 4. How Do You Sleep? 5. Into Ya 6. Makeup 7. My Baby 8. Told You So 9. Relapse 10. Runnin' 11. Freaky
Jesse fans will definitely like this new album!
